Membership

Membership of the Friends brings a wide range of benefits:

It is not necessary to be a graduate of the University of Edinburgh to join the Friends of Edinburgh University Library.

  • Reference access and borrowing facilities at the Edinburgh University Library. Up to 15 items at any one time may be borrowed.
  • Knowledge that you are supporting the work of the Library by helping to purchase items for the collections that the Library could not otherwise afford to acquire
  • Invitations to Friends’ meetings, including talks by leading scholars, publishers and authors.  Members may bring a friend to the Annual General Meeting talk – for other events any accompanying friend will be invited to donate £5 to the Friends
  • Our twice-yearly illustrated magazine, The Piper, with news of the Library and the Friends activities.
  • Invitations to openings and private views of Library exhibitions (normally three per year)
  • Annual visit to another library or similar places of interest
  • Discount on Friends’ and the Library’s own publications

A former President and Secretary explain the history of the Library and the Friends:
